Pack Mat™

What exactly is Pack Mat™? Pack Mat™ is a multi-celled mattress filled with rubber crumb and protected by a durable-wear skin. Its yielding surface does not allow sand to compact, resulting in a softer bed.

Diagram of Pack MatInstallation of the Pack Mat™ system ensures reduced sand usage of up to 80%. Studies indicate that only 1” (2.54cm) of sand is required when using the Pack Mat™, compared to the industry standard of 8” (20.32cm). Stalls always look freshly manicured.

The Pack Mat™ helps maintain a consistent neck rail height based on the bedding surface. Research has shown that cows kick up to 50 lbs. (22.68 kg) of sand out of the stall daily. Being virtually indestructible, the Pack Mat prevents cows from digging unwanted holes in the stall floor. With no holes, there isn’t a negative slope in the stalls and the stall dimensions remain secure. This allows the cow to get up and down without struggling, which reduces the stress level of the animal.

The top cover of the Pack Mat™ is a draining porous surface.

Cow in stall with Pack MatThe rubber crumb filling provides a resilient base below the cow to absorb the shock when she lies down. This is important, as packed sand can be quite hard. Pack Mat™’s surface provides excellent traction and sure footing.

Any reduction in comfort related stress is a desirable goal of herd management. The positive benefits that Pack Mat™ offers impacts the health of the herd, increases productivity and significantly decreases management costs.

Pack Mat™ is economical, durable and low maintenance. This puts extra dollars in the farmer’s pocket. This is the ideal surface to keep your cows comfortable and content!

Bottom line: Pack Mat™ creates a more secure and comfortable stall base and reduces sand usage.

Installations will vary depending on stall base. Mattresses must be placed on stable porous surfaces with ample drainage.

Existing Facilities with stalls already ‘dug out’:

The mattresses are installed 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) below the surface. Once the mattress is in place it will be 1.5-2 inches (3.8-5 cm) below the back curb level and the durable patented top cover is installed over top.

New Facilities:

The base is filled with properly compacted gravel and sand allowing for 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) below the back curb for mattress placement. Once the mattress is in place it will be 1.5-2 inches (3.8-5 cm) below the back curb level and the durable patented top cover is installed over top.
